Troops Rescue Late General Rabe Abubakar’s Widow in Katsina Village Raid

In a major tactical victory against banditry in the North-West, troops of the Nigerian Army, robustly supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have successfully rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, the widow of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar.

The high-stakes search-and-rescue operation was executed by the gallant forces of Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, on Monday, June 15, 2026.

The Defence Headquarters confirmed the rescue, noting that it followed weeks of tracking after she and her late husband—a former Director of Defence Information—were violently abducted by terrorists in Katsina State. Tragically, Major General Abubakar died while in the custody of the criminals.

According to a state dispatch signed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, troops made contact with the armed bandits at Tunga Village during a sustained, intelligence-led offensive.

Realizing they were heavily outgunned and overwhelmed by the advancing military forces, the fleeing bandits shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her at the scene.

"During sustained offensive operations and pressure mounted on the criminal elements, troops made contact with the bandits at Tunga Village, leading to the successful recovery of Mrs. Abubakar.

In the course of the encounter, the bandits shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing due to the overwhelming pressure from advancing troops.”

The military authorities confirmed that Mrs. Abubakar was immediately evacuated from the combat zone to a secure military medical facility, where she is currently responding well to treatment.

In tandem with this rescue, the Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, announced the activation of Operation Clean Sweep IIIin the Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Commencing on June 14, 2026, this aggressive clearance mission has already resulted in the destruction of vital terrorist life-support structures, hideouts, and logistics bases across the Dikkawa Hills, Adua, Nasarawa, and Karaduwa communities.
