The Green Chamber of the National Assembly is experiencing a massive political alignment crisis after the formal defection of the House of Representatives Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, and 13 other lawmakers split the opposition caucus wide open.
The political trend exploded after Speaker Abbas Tajudeen officially read a series of letters on the House floor confirming a multi-party wave of defections.
The focal point of the crisis remains Kingsley Chinda (representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency of Rivers State), a staunch political ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Chinda formally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Courses Congress (APC) and resigned his powerful position as Minority Leader.
This structural move follows Chinda’s recent sweep of the Rivers State APC gubernatorial primary ticket for the 2027 elections.

Alongside Chinda, 13 other representatives abandoned their parties citing unresolved internal crises; notably, a major bloc of six PDP lawmakers from Oyo State defected en masse to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
This mass exit has thrown the opposition camp into total disarray.
Immediately following Chinda’s exit, a coalition of 61 opposition lawmakers under the minority caucus broke ranks to publicly endorse Ikenga Ugochinyere (representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency of Imo State) to step in as the next Minority Leader.
However, this sudden endorsement has deeply factionalized the remaining minority camp, creating a bitter leadership struggle over who properly commands the opposition's legislative agenda moving forward.
