In a bid to host the "biggest and best FIFA World Cup in history," the United States government announced on Wednesday that it will ease visa bond requirements for certain fans and participating teams.
Previously, under a strict migration crackdown, citizens from 50 developing countries were required to pay refundable bonds ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 to secure a US visa.
The State Department confirmed that these bonds will now be waived for team members and fans from competing countries who hold valid match tickets and are registered through a new priority visa system.

This move is particularly significant for supporters from Algeria, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Tunisia—five qualifying nations that were previously subject to the high-cost bond policy.
According to Qubes Magazine, the World Cup, co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, kicks off on June 11, 2026.
While the bond waiver offers relief, scrutiny remains high for other travelers.
The Trump administration has maintained strict entry requirements for certain nations, including Haiti and Iran, leading some analysts to worry that fans from these regions may still face significant barriers to attending the global soccer showcase.
