The Anambra State branch of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has confirmed the safe release of Dr. Edwin Emegakor, the Medical Director of Crown Multi-Specialist Hospital, Nkpor.
Dr. Emegakor was abducted on May 7, 2026, by unidentified men reportedly disguised in security uniforms shortly after he had finished attending to a patient.
NMA Chairman, Dr. Princeton Okam, announced on Sunday that the doctor was rescued through the efforts of police operatives and has since been reunited with his family.

Following the rescue, the association has called for an Emergency General Meeting to review—and likely suspend—the industrial action that was scheduled to begin this Monday.
According to Qubes Magazine, the medical community in Anambra had previously issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Emegakor's release, threatening a total withdrawal of services.
While the NMA celebrated the safe return, they urged the Anambra State government to significantly bolster security to protect healthcare workers from targeted abductions.
