A catastrophic rainstorm has claimed two lives and destroyed over 50 houses in the Dokan Mai-Jama’a community of Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
The Village Head, Alhaji Hamisu Tukur, confirmed the disaster on Tuesday, describing the aftermath as a widespread humanitarian crisis that has left many families homeless.
The storm, which hit on Monday evening, lasted approximately 40 minutes and was characterized by exceptionally strong winds that flattened buildings and ripped off roofs.
A similar scene of destruction was recorded in the Sabon Gyero community within Millennium City, where perimeter fences were destroyed and major roads blocked by debris.
Affected residents are currently seeking temporary shelter and have made an urgent appeal to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the state government for relief materials.
According to Qubes Magazine, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has recently warned of increased rainfall intensity and extreme weather events across northern Nigeria this season.
NEMA has deployed a team to the affected areas to conduct a formal needs assessment, while emergency officials continue to urge residents to reinforce weak structures and heed early weather warnings.
