U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance were rushed off stage on Saturday night, April 25, 2026, after a gunman opened fire during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California, reportedly charged past a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives.
President Trump later shared CCTV footage on social media showing the suspect bypassing metal detectors before being intercepted by the Secret Service.
One law enforcement officer was shot during the confrontation but survived thanks to a bulletproof vest.
Speaking at a press conference shortly after, Trump described the suspect as a "lone wolf whack job" and praised the bravery of his security detail.
The dinner has been postponed as the FBI and Washington Metropolitan Police continue their investigation into the motive behind the breach.
