Supply Chain Crisis: Iran Conflict Drives 30% Price Increase for World’s Top Condom Maker
Karex Bhd, the world’s largest producer of condoms, has announced a price hike of 20% to 30% due to the ongoing conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran.
CEO Goh Miah Kiat warned that the company has "no choice" but to pass on rising costs to customers as the prices of raw materials like synthetic rubber, nitrile, and silicone oil skyrocket.
The conflict, which intensified in late February, has doubled shipping times to Europe and the US, with delivery now taking up to two months.
Karex—which supplies major brands like Durex and Trojan—is also seeing a 30% surge in demand as global stockpiles dwindle.
The CEO noted that developing countries are most at risk of shortages, as logistics bottlenecks continue to strain the global distribution of essential health products.
