Lagos Plots Blue Economy Revolution with Electric Ferries and Multi-Modal Transport Hubs
The Lagos State Government has unveiled a transformative five-year mobility masterplan aimed at decongesting city roads through a massive expansion of water transportation.
Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, Special Adviser to the Governor on Marine and Blue Economy, announced that the state will deploy electric ferries and dredge over 140 kilometers of inland waterways to create a seamless transit network.
Supervising the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Emmanuel highlighted that the project includes building major interchanges at Mile 2 and Marina, where water, rail, and bus services will converge.
To promote environmental sustainability, the state is moving toward cleaner energy by piloting electric vessels and converting existing boat engines to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
With current monthly traffic estimated at 2 million users, the government aims to make water travel a primary, reliable alternative for Lagosians.
