Hope for Lokoja: 17 Abducted Islamic School Pupils Rescued as Hunt for Kidnappers Continues
A joint security team in Kogi State has successfully rescued 17 out of 26 victims abducted from the Daarul Kitab Islamic School in Lokoja.
The abduction occurred late Saturday night when gunmen invaded the institution, which also serves as an orphanage.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Afusat, confirmed that the rescue followed an intensive operation by police and military forces.
However, nine pupils remain in captivity. The Kogi State Government, while praising the rescue efforts, criticized the school’s management for operating in a remote location without proper registration, calling the incident "avoidable."
Commissioner Naziru Kankarofi has ordered a tactical team to remain in the area for bush combing and surveillance until the remaining victims are freed.
