Troops Neutralize 80 Terrorists and Top Commanders in Decisive Borno Midnight Battle
In a major blow to insurgency in Northeast Nigeria, the troops of Operation Hadin Kai, supported by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), successfully neutralized no fewer than eighty terrorists during a fierce midnight encounter in Borno State.
The high-stakes battle occurred at Mallam Fatori in Abadam Local Government Area, effectively disrupting the command structure of the insurgents.
According to a statement by the Operation Hadin Kai spokesman, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the "offensive-defensive operation" resulted in the death of three high-profile commanders identified as Abdulrahman Gobara, Mallam Ba Yuram, and Abou Ayyuba.
Other neutralized fighters include notorious figures such as Zarkawi, Ba Bunu, and Abu Aisha.
The operation took place just hours before the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj.-Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, arrived in Maiduguri.
Their visit follows a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for security chiefs to relocate to the state after recent suicide bombings.
Lt. Col. Uba noted that the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the 68 Battalion’s position at 12:50 a.m. using foot soldiers and drones.
However, they were repelled by disciplined fire and precision air strikes from both Nigerian and allied Nigerien air assets.
Recovered items include 52 AK-47 rifles, armed drone components, and over 3,000 rounds of ammunition.
