President Tinubu and King Charles III Meet at Windsor Castle to Deepen UK-Nigeria Security Pact


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to strengthening its security partnership with the United Kingdom to combat the rising threat of terrorism in West Africa. 


Speaking at a historic state banquet hosted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Wednesday night, the President highlighted the urgent need for international collaboration to stabilize the Sahel region.


During his address, President Tinubu became the first Nigerian leader to formally speak at the symbolic seat of the British monarchy. 


He emphasized that the UK remains an essential partner in addressing the complex security challenges facing the continent.

“Our West African region faces complex terrorism challenges with roots in the Sahel," President Tinubu stated. "In confronting these threats, partnership with the United Kingdom remains essential and I look forward to my meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer.”


Reflecting on his personal history, the President also expressed gratitude for the refuge the UK provided him during the military regime of General Sani Abacha. 


He noted that the solidarity shown by the British government during Nigeria's pro-democracy struggle remains a cornerstone of the bilateral relationship. 


Beyond security, the visit aims to boost cooperation in trade, healthcare, and defense.
