Nigerian National and Kenyan Accomplice Arrested in Major Narcotics Operation
Authorities in Kenya have apprehended a Nigerian national, Okeke Ikechukwu, and his Kenyan counterpart, Alex Opondo, following a high-stakes intelligence-led operation targeting an international narcotics trafficking network.
The arrest was confirmed on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kenya.
The sting, executed by the Anti-Narcotics Unit in collaboration with the Transnational Organised Crime Unit, initially targeted a planned drug exchange in Syokimau, Machakos County.
After the suspects aborted the first meeting, covert sources redirected detectives to an apartment in Ruaka, Kiambu County.
During the raid at Mbuti Apartment, security forces recovered a significant cache of incriminating evidence, including:
- Pellets and packages of suspected narcotic substances.
- Digital weighing scales and mobile phones.
Foreign passports and bulk cash in both Kenyan and Nigerian currencies.
“The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court today as investigations continue to trace additional suspects and dismantle the wider trafficking network,” the DCI statement confirmed.
The suspects are currently being processed at the Ruaraka and Pangani Police Stations, while the recovered exhibits have been secured for forensic analysis.
This arrest marks another milestone in the regional effort to sanitize East African borders from transnational drug cartels.
