Normalcy Returns to Maiduguri Following Coordinated Triple Bombings; IGP Disu Visits Survivors
The Borno State Police Command has announced that normalcy has been restored to Maiduguri following the devastating triple bombings that rocked the city on Monday.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, Police Spokesman Kenneth Daso confirmed that joint security forces have saturated the state capital to prevent further breaches.
The coordinated attacks, carried out by suspected suicide bombers, targeted the busy Monday Market, the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), and a post office area.
Preliminary reports confirm at least 23 people were killed, with over 100 others injured in the blasts.
Witnesses described a harrowing scene where a second explosion targeted crowds fleeing the initial market blast.
“Joint security forces are currently undergoing security operations, and investigations are ongoing as the police are still probing the scene of the incidents,” Daso stated.
In a show of rapid response, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, arrived in Maiduguri to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the blast sites.
The IGP also visited survivors receiving treatment at the UMTH, assuring them of the Force's resolve to dismantle the networks responsible for the carnage.
This update follows President Bola Tinubu’s executive order for all security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to take personal charge of the counter-terrorism theatre.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has condemned the "reckless waste of human lives," vowing to work with the Federal Government to totally defeat the insurgency.
