Lagos Model College Students and Teacher Survive Violent Expressway Collision in Onipanu
According to Punch, two students of the Lagos State Model Junior College, Igbonla, Epe, and their teacher narrowly escaped a fatal outcome on Wednesday following a high-speed car crash in the Onipanu area of Lagos.
The victims were traveling in a Suzuki Alto when it collided with a Honda Accord, causing one of the vehicles to flip onto the opposite side of the expressway.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident in an official statement.
He revealed that the accident occurred around 6:00 p.m. due to excessive speeding by both vehicles involved.
"The Suzuki Alto carried three occupants—a teacher and two students... LASEMA is pleased to report that no fatalities occurred and all occupants of the vehicles escaped without serious injury," Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
The victims were identified as Animashaun Ridwan and Ogunbamowo Michael, both JSS 2 students, along with their Basic Technology teacher, Mr. Joseph.
While the students reported head and eye discomfort, they were stabilized by LASEMA paramedics and handed over to their parents.
The heavily damaged vehicles have been moved to a police station for further investigation.
LASEMA has urged Lagos motorists to prioritize safety and adhere to speed limits to prevent further tragedies.
