Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended 15 male suspects for their alleged involvement in the unlawful trade of radioactive solid minerals in Kaduna State, the anti-graft agency has announced.
The development was disclosed on Tuesday by the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, in an official statement.
According to the statement, the suspects were arrested on Sunday, March 8, 2026, along the Suleja–Maji Road in Niger State by operatives attached to the EFCC Kaduna Zonal Directorate.
Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects were transporting the suspected radioactive solid minerals in three trucks to various destinations across the country for purposes yet to be determined by investigators.
The commission stated that the suspects are currently being interrogated at the Kaduna Zonal Directorate as investigations continue.
The EFCC added that the suspects would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The arrest highlights the agency's ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal mining activities and the unlawful trade of solid minerals, which have become significant sources of economic crime in various parts of Nigeria.
Radioactive minerals are strictly regulated due to their potential environmental and health hazards, and their illegal trade poses serious risks to both public safety and national security.
