In a significant blow to terrorist operations in the North East, Nigerian troops have intercepted a vehicle suspected to be transporting crucial logistics supplies for the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The successful operation was carried out by troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Chabbal, operating under Operation HADIN KAI.
According to a post on X by Zagazola Makama, a respected counter-insurgency and security expert focused on the Lake Chad region, the interception occurred on February 26. Troops conducting a routine checkpoint and search operation along the Maiduguri–Gubio main supply route flagged down a Toyota pickup truck for inspection.
Makama reported, citing intelligence sources, that a meticulous search of the vehicle revealed a cache of items cleverly hidden under planks in the truck bed. The recovered items included large quantities of textile fabrics, which are reportedly used by terrorists for camouflage and other purposes. Additionally, the troops seized 20 Hilux tyre tubes, various motorcycle spare parts, 10 cutlasses, and three mobile phones.
The sources emphasized the strategic nature of the cargo, noting that the tyres and tubes were specifically linked to ISWAP logistics operations, likely intended to maintain their vehicle fleet used for movement and attacks.
Following the discovery, the three male occupants of the vehicle were immediately detained. Both the suspects and the recovered items have been handed over to the 7 Mechanised Infantry Brigade for further investigation and intelligence gathering.
"The source emphasized that the arrest and seizure were part of ongoing efforts to disrupt ISWAP’s supply networks and curb terrorist activities across the North East region," Makama stated. This operation highlights the continued vigilance of Nigerian troops in dismantling the supply chains that sustain insurgent groups in the region.
