Tragedy has struck in the Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State, where a 30-year-old mother of three, identified as Abigail Adebayo, has allegedly died by suicide following her fiancé's family rejection of their proposed marriage.
According to reports, Abigail had been in a relationship with one Oniga Abiola since September 2025, and the couple had been making plans to get married. However, events took a devastating turn about two weeks ago when Abiola took his fiancée home to meet his mother and introduce her to the family.
Daily post gathered that the family rejected the marriage upon discovering that Abigail had three children from a previous relationship. The rejection reportedly plunged the young mother into deep distress.
Tragically, she was later found motionless in her room after allegedly ingesting sniper, a toxic insecticide commonly used in such incidents of self-harm. Her fiancé, Abiola, immediately reported the incident to the Atan Ijebu Division of the Ogun State Police Command.
Confirming the incident to Daily post on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that Abigail was rushed to the General Hospital in Ijebu-Ode for emergency medical attention. Sadly, doctors on duty confirmed her dead on arrival.
Babaseyi provided details of the police response, saying, "On 12/02/2026 Thursday, it was reported that one Abigail Adebayo 'F', 30 years, allegedly ingested Sniper insecticide following a family disagreement over their intended marriage. She was immediately rushed to General Hospital, Ijebu Ode, where she was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty."
The police spokesperson assured that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover all circumstances surrounding the incident. "Detectives visited the scene and the hospital, photographs were taken and no visible marks of violence were found on the body. Investigation is ongoing," he added.
The incident has sparked conversations about the pressures surrounding relationships, family acceptance, and the mental health challenges that can arise from social rejection. As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of a young mother, leaving behind three children and a grieving fiancé.
