The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a stern final warning to table water producers in Kebbi State, threatening to seal any factory that fails to comply with manufacturing and safety regulations. This announcement comes after the agency had already shut down approximately 100 non-compliant water factories in the state.
The ultimatum was delivered by the North-West Zonal Director of NAFDAC, Dadi Nantim Mullah, during a crucial meeting with stakeholders and members of the Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) in Birnin Kebbi. The engagement was part of the agency's broader strategy to enforce total compliance across all stages of production.
According to Mullah, the meeting was designed to educate and compel producers to adhere to standards. “It is my belief that the stakeholders here today will henceforth comply with NAFDAC regulations because they now have a better understanding,” he stated. “This training is designed to increase their knowledge and improve compliance with the requirements for producing quality packaged water.”

Revealing the scale of the existing compliance problem, the Kebbi State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Muyideen Folorunsho Suleiman, disclosed the aggressive enforcement actions already taken. He reported that upon assuming his role, he had sealed off about 100 packaged water factories due to various serious infractions.
These infractions included operating without NAFDAC registration, using expired licenses, and utilizing substandard and unhygienic production facilities that compromise the safety of the water consumed by the public. This revelation highlights the significant public health risk that has been present in the state.
In response to the crackdown, the State Chairman of the Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP), Babangida Aliyu Bande, offered assurances of cooperation. He pledged that members of the association would fully comply with NAFDAC’s standards on packaged water and food production moving forward.
This strong stance from NAFDAC underscores the agency's commitment to safeguarding public health by ensuring that all consumables, especially essential products like water, meet the required safety and quality benchmarks. Producers in Kebbi State are now on notice that any deviation from the set regulations will result in immediate sanctions and the sealing of their business premises.
