The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is set to transform lesson planning in schools nationwide with the launch of AI-generated, contextualised lesson plans tailored for Nigerian classrooms.

TRCN Registrar, Dr Ronke Soyombo, made the announcement in Abuja on Wednesday during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GMIND AI, a technology firm specialising in artificial intelligence solutions. According to Soyombo, the initiative will revolutionise teaching by providing lesson plans that reflect Nigeria’s culture, history, and learning needs.
Under the partnership, the AI-powered platform will deliver two types of resources – dynamic, simulated lesson plans for digitally skilled teachers, and prescriptive, ready-to-use plans for educators with limited ICT skills. This, Soyombo explained, will ensure inclusivity and accessibility across all teaching levels.
The official launch of the platform is scheduled for October 6, following the unveiling of TRCN’s redesigned website on August 25, which will feature multilingual video guides. Nationwide training sessions for teachers across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones are also planned.
“We want AI-generated lesson plans that are contextualised for our children,” Soyombo stated. “Every lesson will be simulated because 21st-century learners need to see and experience concepts for learning to be profound.” She emphasised that the platform would integrate Nigerian history, such as the Ife and Benin Kingdoms, alongside global topics like the Victorians.
The resource bank will cover all school subjects and will be available online, through state TRCN offices, and in downloadable formats. Lesson content will also be differentiated to meet the needs of gifted, average, and less able learners, with a focus on practical, hands-on activities.

“This is teachers supporting teachers,” Soyombo added, noting that outstanding educators will help design the prescriptive lesson plans. She said the initiative would reduce the burden of lesson planning, enabling teachers to focus on adapting materials to their learners’ needs.
Director of Strategic Partnership and Innovation at GMIND AI, Dr Deji Ajani, described the collaboration as a “flagship example of AI in education in Africa,” highlighting its potential to blend advanced technology with Nigeria’s unique educational realities.
While the project will initially cater to Nigerian educators, it will also be open to all TRCN-registered and licensed teachers.
