The Niger State Police Command has arrested three salesgirls and an accomplice over the alleged theft of phones and electronics worth ₦29 million from a shop located at Obasanjo Complex, Minna.

According to a statement by police spokesperson, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the main suspect, Sarah Ogbonna, was accused of systematically stealing items from her employer since 2023. Investigations revealed that Sarah allegedly diverted goods worth millions of naira, using part of the proceeds to settle family problems, participate in an online money contribution scheme, and even rent and furnish an apartment for her boyfriend.
The police recovered ₦700,000 from her at the time of arrest, along with luxury items such as wigs worth ₦500,000 each, a smart TV, power generators, and household furniture.

Further investigations led to the arrest of her elder sister, Mercy Ogbonna (30), who reportedly received multiple transfers from Sarah to cover family expenses, and Ruth Emmanuel (23), another salesgirl alleged to have participated in the theft. An accomplice, Nurudeen Musa (32), was also apprehended for receiving stolen phones and selling them at giveaway prices.
DSP Abiodun stated that Sarah admitted to the theft during interrogation but claimed she could not confirm if the value reached ₦29 million.
“She confessed to stealing but said she wouldn’t know if it amounted to ₦29m. However, ₦700,000 cash was recovered from her. Her statement led to the arrest of other accomplices,” the police spokesperson explained.
The police further disclosed that Sarah rented a Sauka-Kauta area apartment for her boyfriend, Samuel Abiodun Bello, who is currently on the run.
Recovered items include electronics, fashion accessories, and household goods believed to have been purchased with proceeds from the stolen phones.
All suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
