A commercial motorcycle operator in Lagos, simply identified as Henry, has recounted a shocking experience in which a man dressed in military uniform allegedly made away with his motorcycle using a fake ATM card.
According to Henry, the suspect had hired him for a day-long ride around Lagos, promising to pay N8,000 for the service. They started the journey early in the day and moved through various locations before returning to Command Road in Ayobo late at night.
Henry narrated that the alleged thief asked him to stop at a Point of Sale (POS) outlet near Iyana Iba New Road at about 10 p.m. to withdraw money with an ATM card.
“But as soon as I handed the card to the POS agent, he jumped on my motorcycle and sped off,” Henry explained.
According to reports, this method of theft — carried out by criminals disguised in military attire — is becoming increasingly common in parts of Lagos.

Confirming the case, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that Henry got lucky a few days later when he spotted the thief, still wearing a military outfit, riding his stolen motorcycle near First Gate, Igbo-Elerin, along LASU–Iyana Iba Road.
An RRS patrol team on duty nearby immediately responded.
“On seeing the officers and Henry, the suspect abandoned the bike and fled the scene,” Hundeyin said.
Henry has since been reunited with his motorcycle. The suspect remains at large, but a manhunt is currently underway.
Hundeyin assured Lagosians that the police are determined to track down and prosecute the suspect to deter others involved in similar criminal acts.
