The Lagos State Police Command has dismantled a trans-border trafficking syndicate that specialized in recruiting and transporting young girls to Ghana for prostitution.

Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed in a Friday statement that operatives rescued 11 victims and arrested four suspects in a coordinated operation.
According to the police report, the case began on August 13, 2025, when officers from the Ilemba Hausa Division intercepted Mustapha Abubakar, suspected to be a commercial motorcyclist and recruiter, who was caught with a 15-year-old girl being trafficked to Ghana.
Hundeyin explained that the case was immediately transferred to the Command’s Special Squad I. Working with intelligence support, the squad launched a manhunt that led to the arrest of three other suspects: Charles Chima (54), Emmanuel Nwaka (36), and Princess John (21).
“The suspects were part of a criminal network responsible for luring and transporting young women from Nigeria to Ghana for prostitution,” Hundeyin said.
Further investigations led to the rescue of an additional 10 victims, aged between 21 and 29, who are now in protective custody. The victims are receiving medical care, counseling, and support while authorities work to reunite them with their families.

Hundeyin confirmed that the suspects are cooperating with investigators. He added that Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, praised the operatives for their swift response and emphasized the Command’s zero tolerance for human trafficking.
The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to help curb the rising menace of human trafficking.
The latest bust highlights the persistent challenges of cross-border exploitation in West Africa, where criminal gangs target vulnerable young women with false promises of employment abroad.
