Fast-rising Afrobeats artist Fido has broken his silence on a bitter dispute with his former record label, accusing them of withholding the bulk of his advance payment and sabotaging his career.

Speaking during a radio interview, the singer alleged that he received less than ₦1.5 million (just over $1,000) out of a $20,000 advance promised to him. According to Fido, the management withheld up to 95% of the funds, despite his transparency during the contract period.
“I was transparent with them even when I was still with them, but they took all my advance from me… they gave me just ₦1.5 million out of $20,000,” the singer revealed, insisting that he has evidence to support his claims.

Industry observers believe the dispute could still be resolved legally since Fido’s contract with the label has already been terminated. The interviewer also recommended that his current partners at Empire and industry stakeholders like MK step in to help revive his stalled projects.
Fido admitted that the financial and contractual battle had taken a toll on his career, fueling speculation among fans about his reduced visibility in the Afrobeats scene. “People never knew what I was facing. They just thought, ‘Ah, this boy, this…’ But they never knew the battles behind the scenes,” he said.
The singer, however, assured fans that he is now focused on moving forward and intends to rebuild his career momentum with the support of his new management.
