South African Woman Shot Dead Months After Receiving Threat Letter Over Love Triangle

South African woman Lesego Masina killed after threat letter love triangle murder

A 32-year-old woman, Lesego Mary Masina, has been tragically killed in what appears to be a targeted murder, months after receiving a threatening letter warning her to “stay away from my man.” The horrifying incident occurred on Sunday, July 20, 2025, in Boikhutsong, Phase 8, Mabopane, Tshwane.

According to a report by Daily Sun, Lesego was at home with six family members when three armed men in balaclavas broke in under the cover of darkness. Her sister, Ofense Masina, described the ordeal as terrifying, stating that the attackers had torches due to a power outage and tied them all up.

“They told us to stay quiet. After asking for names, they found Lesego and took her to the bedroom. Moments later, we heard a gunshot,” Ofense said. Lesego was shot in the head and died instantly. The assailants made away with two phones and R150.

What makes the incident more chilling is that months earlier, the family had received a letter with bullets attached, warning Lesego to stay away from a certain man. They also received anonymous late-night phone calls, but despite reporting the threats, police failed to act decisively.

Lesego’s father, Paulous Masina, insists this was not a robbery but a premeditated killing. “We want justice for my daughter,” he pleaded.

Gauteng Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed a case of house robbery and murder has been opened. No arrests have been made as of the time of this report.
