The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rejected his proposed reschedule for June 26, labeling the matter as one of “urgent national importance.”

According to a report by Sunday PUNCH, the incident triggered public outrage after Speed Darlington’s live Instagram session drew attention from human rights advocates and law enforcement.

The Lagos State Government promptly escalated the case to NAPTIP, prompting an official summons for the singer to appear at the agency's headquarters in Abuja on May 30.

However, the artist failed to honor the initial invitation, later responding that the summons was too sudden and offering June 26 as a more convenient date.

In response, NAPTIP sent a follow-up letter signed by its Director of ICT and Cybercrime Response, Hakeem Lawal, stating that his request could not be accommodated.

“The issue at hand is of urgent national importance,” Lawal stated. “You are further given till Monday, June 2, 2025, at 1:00 pm, to appear at the NAPTIP Headquarters in Abuja.”

Despite the extended grace period, Speed Darlington again failed to show up. An anonymous agency official told Sunday PUNCH that legal action is likely, noting that the singer has missed two scheduled appearances.

“The agency will not work with his timing,” the official emphasized. “No one is above the law.”

NAPTIP’s Chief Press Officer, Mr. Vincent Adekoye, added that they are collaborating with sister law enforcement agencies, including the Nigerian Immigration Service, to ensure that Okoye is compelled to respond to the allegations.

“We are working proactively and will not allow this case to slip through the cracks,” Adekoye said.

With increasing public pressure and a brewing legal storm, it appears that Speed Darlington’s attempt to delay justice may lead to more severe consequences.
