A 68-year-old man narrowly escaped death after falling into a deep well while attempting to retrieve his mobile phone in the Oke-Ado area of Ibadan, Oyo State. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 8, 2025.

According to DAILY POST, the dramatic rescue took place at Mobolorunduro Mosque located in the Imalenfalafia area. The elderly man had reportedly dropped his phone into the well and was trying to retrieve it when he slipped and fell in.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said they received a distress call at approximately 6:10 am and immediately dispatched rescue personnel to the location.

“A distressed call was reported at exactly 6:10 am on Sunday, June 8, 2025, and fire personnel were promptly deployed to the scene,” Akinwande stated. “Upon arrival, our team found the victim—a man of about 68 years—trapped in a deep well. He had tried to retrieve his lost phone when he fell in.”

    Akinwande explained that the firefighters acted swiftly, using all necessary safety knots and procedures to conduct the rescue. The man was successfully pulled out of the well alive and was immediately handed over to his family for medical attention and further care.

    The quick response by the fire department prevented what could have been a tragic accident, and authorities are once again advising residents to avoid taking personal risks when items fall into dangerous places.
