A Nigerian man has called out the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Abuja over what he described as a shocking display of negligence by medical staff after he rushed an accident victim with a head injury to the facility.

In a video now trending online, the man recounted how he found a victim bleeding from the head and transported him urgently to FMC’s Accident and Emergency Unit. However, upon arrival, he was stunned by the reaction of hospital staff.
According to him, a female staff member asked him to help bring the injured man out of the car and place him on a wheelchair. He refused, insisting that it was the responsibility of trained medical personnel to handle such emergencies.
He claimed the nurse explained that the staff member in charge of such tasks, identified only as Elijah, was not on duty at the time. She also allegedly said she couldn't assist directly because she lacked protective gloves.

Frustrated and angry, the man stated in the video, “You mean in the Federal Capital Territory, the FMC does not have gloves? I will make this video go viral so that Wike (Minister of the FCT) sees this nonsense happening in our hospitals!”
The incident has sparked massive outrage on social media, with many Nigerians reacting with mixed emotions. While some defended the nurse’s adherence to safety protocols, others criticized the hospital’s failure to act swiftly in an emergency, suggesting a dangerous lack of compassion and adequate resources in Nigeria’s public healthcare system.

This development raises serious concerns over the availability of medical supplies and the readiness of emergency services in government hospitals. The video has since been widely shared on various social platforms, prompting calls for an official investigation into the matter.
As of the time of this report, neither the management of the Federal Medical Center nor the FCT Health Secretariat has issued an official response.
