The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has busted a warehouse in Suleja, Niger State, for illegally storing and selling banned food additives, including monosodium glutamate (MSG), popularly known as "White Maggi."
During a raid led by Mr. Kenneth Azikiwe, Director of NAFDAC’s FCT Directorate, the agency confiscated large quantities of MSG, counterfeit toothpaste, and unregistered spaghetti brands like Doga and Roca. The operation, ordered by NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, aimed to curb the sale of harmful products endangering public health.
Azikiwe warned that bulk sales of MSG pose severe health risks, as unregulated vendors often repackage it with salt, masking spoiled food. Prolonged consumption can damage vital organs and worsen chronic diseases.
Additionally, NAFDAC seized fake toothpaste brands such as Bamboo Charcoal and Crogate, imitating established brands like Colgate. The total value of confiscated goods was estimated at ₦47.5 million.
NAFDAC urged consumers to verify product registration numbers and avoid unapproved additives. The agency continues its crackdown on illegal food and drug sales nationwide.
