The Niger State Police Command has arrested five individuals, including three fake EFCC operatives, for the abduction and extortion of students in Lapai. The arrests were made on May 13, 2025, after a detailed investigation and pursuit by police officers.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the main suspects — Emmanuel Linus (30), Hyelda Aliyu (28), and Abduljallid Tanko (33) — posed as EFCC operatives using fake identification cards designed in Nyanya, Abuja. The trio drove a Toyota Corolla with plate number ABJ 245 CU to carry out their operation.
They reportedly stormed a student’s residence with tasers disguised as firearms, abducted two students, and demanded a ransom of ₦10 million, which was later reduced to ₦500,000 before their arrest.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to receiving insider information from informants Mohammed Hassan and Hamisu Adamu, both residents of Angwan-Hausa in Lapai. The two informants were later apprehended and identified Emmanuel Linus as a dismissed soldier and former convict.
All five suspects are in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and will be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation.
