According to Daily Trust, The victim, Lami, was kidnapped alongside her husband, Yakubu Dada, a retired civil servant and current WHO ad hoc staff, on October 31, 2024, along Kontagora Road. Despite the family's efforts—selling their house, cars, and belongings to raise ₦10 million—the kidnappers executed Lami and demanded an additional ₦20 million and four Bajaj motorcycles.

In a tearful statement, Dada’s first wife, Maimuna, revealed that the initial payment was delivered in a forest in Kebbi State. Shockingly, after collecting the money, the abductors continued their threats, eventually reducing the ransom demand to ₦20 million and bikes.

“Our husband called to say Lami had been killed, and they’ll kill him too if we don’t pay the new ransom,” Maimuna said. The family has since called on the Niger State government and security agencies for urgent help.

A neighbor, Idris Mohammed, confirmed a public plea was made during Jumaat prayers last Friday. The situation highlights the worsening state of insecurity in Nigeria, where innocent lives are lost even after paying hefty ransoms.
