In a significant move to enhance user convenience, Sony has integrated Apple Pay as a payment option on the PlayStation 5 (PS5) console. Previously limited to browsers and the PlayStation mobile app, Apple Pay now joins other on-console payment methods like credit/debit cards and PayPal.
This new feature utilizes a QR code method introduced with iOS 18. When purchasing a game on the PS5, users can select Apple Pay at checkout, prompting a QR code to appear on the TV screen. Scanning this code with an iPhone opens a checkout screen, allowing users to confirm the transaction seamlessly.
Apple Card users stand to benefit further, as they can earn 2% cashback on these purchases. Currently, this feature is available in select regions, including the United States. There are also indications that Apple Pay support may extend to PS4 consoles in a future software update.
This integration marks a significant step in enhancing the digital purchasing experience for PS5 users, offering a more streamlined and secure payment method directly from the console.
