In a significant operation, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Ondo/Ekiti Command intercepted over 140 sacks of Cannabis sativa, commonly known as Indian hemp, weighing approximately 1,400 kilograms and valued at N112 million.

The seizure occurred in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, when customs patrol agents, acting on intelligence, apprehended two suspects transporting the illicit substance. Following their arrest, the suspects were granted bail on health grounds but subsequently absconded.

Efforts to locate them led to the arrest of their surety, Ale Victor Ayodeji, who has been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for prosecution. Mrs. Morenikeji Bewaji, the NCS Comptroller in charge of the command, expressed concern over the increasing trade in illicit drugs, highlighting their detrimental impact on societal well-being and national security.
