Victor Osimhen took his leadership and sportsmanship to new heights on Sunday as he dedicated his two-goal performance to injured Galatasaray teammate Mauro Icardi following a dramatic 3-2 victory over Samsunspor in the Turkish Super Lig Game Week 12 fixture.

The Nigerian striker scored a brace that saw Galatasaray reclaim the lead twice in a thrilling match. He opened the scoring just three minutes into the game, giving his side the early advantage.

After Jules Ntcham equalized for Samsunspor with a penalty, Osimhen restored Galatasaray’s lead in the 55th minute, securing his team’s hard-fought win.

In an emotional gesture, Osimhen lifted Icardi’s shirt in front of the home fans at RAMS Park in Istanbul, signaling his support for his injured teammate. Icardi, 31, had been playing an integral role in Galatasaray’s attack alongside Osimhen, but is now sidelined due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury and meniscus damage sustained during the club’s 3-2 Europa League victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Osimhen’s brace took his tally to six goals in his last six league appearances, continuing his excellent form since his loan move from Napoli in September.

His overall tally stands at eight goals in nine matches across all competitions, cementing his status as one of the league’s most prolific strikers.

Despite his personal success, Osimhen has expressed his thoughts and support for Icardi, whose absence leaves a significant gap in Galatasaray’s offensive line. The club confirmed that Icardi would undergo surgery and is already in rehabilitation before his procedure.

Galatasaray, currently third in the Europa League standings and leading the Turkish Süper Lig, will undoubtedly miss Icardi’s presence on the pitch as they look to continue their domestic and European campaigns.
