Biden Steps Aside from 2024 Race to Defend Democracy

President Joe Biden announced he will not run in the 2024 presidential race, framing his decision as a defense of democracy. Speaking from the Oval Office, Biden emphasized the need to pass "the torch to a new generation" and unite the Democratic Party.

Biden stated, “I revere this office. But I love my country more. In defense of democracy, which is at stake – and is more important than any title. I draw strength and I find joy in working for the American people.”

Without naming Donald Trump, Biden highlighted the importance of democratic principles over personal ambition. He expressed confidence in his vice president, Kamala Harris, who will lead the Democratic ticket. 

Biden's speech marked a significant moment as he prepares to shape his presidential legacy, focusing on Supreme Court reform, ending the war in Gaza, and advancing his cancer-ending initiative.
