In Akwa Ibom: NYSC explains death of Corps member

The  National Youth Services Corps (NYSC) has opened up on the circumstances surrounding the death of a corps member, Mrs Queen Eziuche who died at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Nsit Atai local government area of Akwa Ibom State last weekend.

The Akwa Ibom State coordinator of the Corps, Mr Julius Amusan told journalists in a phone interview  yesterday in Uyo that the female corps member who died in camp had a terminal disease.

Amusan explained that the deceased came into the camp ill and with drugs, but kept the information of her ill health from the NYSC authorities. The coordinator further stated that the deceased came into the camp with drugs while her family members were aware of her ill health.

“The female corps member died last Sunday in her sleep arising from a terminal disease she brought from home which wasn’t known to camp authorities.

“She concealed her health challenge, came with quantum of drugs, even her family members and her husband are aware,” he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Udom Emmanuel has described as unfortunate the untimely demise of the corps member.

In a condolence message to the deceased family and the Director General of NYSC, Emmanuel expressed shock over the sudden death of Eziuche.

“The sudden exit of late Mrs Queen Eziuche has deprived Akwa  Ibom State of the contributions she would have made in expanding the layers of our common humanity and also service to her Fatherland,” he said.

The governor who was represented by the state chairman of NYSC Governing Board and commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Monday Uko, at the condolence visit gave the family of the deceased financial support to aide them with the burial programme.

Late Mrs Queen Uba Eziuche was a Batch ‘A’ corps member with call up Number: NYSC /ISU /2020 /0562, and was posted to serve in the State. ( Leadership )
