TechNews: Steve Wozniak says Apple should have been split up a long time back

Big tech companies, which includes Apple, Facebook, Google and Amazon, are facing a threat in the US. They are not only being hunted down by the regulators over antitrust concerns but also by the local politicians who have made it their motto to break their tech giants in favour of the greater good. Now, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has spoken in favour of breaking up the very company he helped built.

Wozniak or Woz, as he is lovingly called, in an interview with Bloomberg Technology's Taylor Riggs has called for breaking up Apple saying that the company should have been split up a long time back. "I'm in favor of looking into splitting up companies. I wish Apple on its own had split up a long time ago and spun off independent divisions to far-off places and let them think independently - the way HP did when I was there," Woz said in the interview.


While the Apple co-founder spoke in favour of breaking up Apple, he also praised the company for maintaining one of the most lucrative platforms in the world. "I think Apple is the best of the companies, for a lot of different reasons - caring about the customers and just making money off of good products, not tracking and following you," Wozniak said in the Bloomberg interview, as reported by 9To5 Mac.

He also said that he was proud of Apple for being flexible and for transitioning as per the market demand. "I'm actually very proud of Apple as a company because of the fact we have been able to transition. We started out with the name Apple Computer - and as we moved into products that were more personal in nature...," he added.

It is worth noting that Wozniak is not the first co-founder who has spoken in favour of break up a big tech company. Back in May this year, Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes penned an op-ed in The New York Times wherein he called for breaking up the social media giant. "The government must hold Mark accountable...It is time to break up Facebook," he had written in the op-ed.

Zuckerberg had said responding to Hughes' statement in an interview with the French broadcaster, France Info back in May.(Indiatoday)
