UEFA has issued a stern response to reports alleging that FIFA President Gianni Infantino is contemplating selling stakes in the FIFA World Cup to private investors—a controversial commercial proposal that could shift governing authority to a private enterprise.
Reports by The Times revealed that Infantino has consulted figures associated with the Donald Trump administration regarding the creation of a commercial company to oversee FIFA, with Infantino potentially serving as its commissioner following his presidency.
The report comes shortly after FIFA issued a press release outlining plans to raise football development funding to over $10 billion for its 211 Member Associations, subject to official approval.
However, UEFA strongly condemned any attempt to commercialize governing structures without global transparency, cautioning that national associations, leagues, players, and supporters must reject the monetization of the sport's administrative body.
In an official public reaction, UEFA emphasized that football governance should never be treated as a tradable financial commodity, urging stakeholders to protect the integrity and collective ownership of global football.
