"I Dropped My Gold Jewelry in the Lagoon" — Foluke Adeboye Recalls Radical Transition to RCCG Faith

Foluke Adeboye, the wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared a startling testimony regarding her journey into the Christian faith. In a candid interview, the woman often referred to as "Mummy GO" revealed that she once disposed of her entire collection of valuable gold jewelry by throwing it into a lagoon.

According to Mrs. Adeboye, the decision was fueled by her commitment to her new life as a born-again Christian in the early days of RCCG, where wearing earrings was considered a "taboo" and contrary to the church's holiness doctrines at the time.

She explained that despite a natural love for fashion, she felt compelled to align her physical appearance with her spiritual beliefs.

The pastor's wife also addressed a specific encounter with her mother’s friend, who suggested she should have gifted the jewelry to her mother to sell rather than wasting it.

“Every woman loves fashion. The moment we were born again then in RCCG, it was a taboo for you to have earrings. So everything, I dropped it in the lagoon,” she said.

Addressing the suggestion to sell them, she firmly added: “Whatever is not good for me is not good for my mother.”

Foluke Adeboye emphasized that she has no regrets over the decision, stating that she does not miss the luxury items as her focus remains on her spiritual calling.
