In a heartbreaking development, the Bauchi State Police Command has recovered the decomposing body of four-year-old Yunusa Salisu, who was abducted and murdered despite a partial ransom payment.
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Rabiu Safiyanu, was a close associate of the victim's family, residing in the same Nasarawa Madina Quarters.
According to a statement from the Command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, the victim was reported missing on March 18, 2026.
The kidnapper initially demanded a ransom of N500,000. Despite the father, Salisu Yunusa, paying N100,000 to the captor, the child was never returned.
Following a rigorous investigation by the 'C' Divisional Headquarters, Safiyanu was apprehended and reportedly confessed to strangling the boy and burying him at Warinje Hills.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case.
This tragedy follows a string of violent crimes in the state, including the recent arrest of four siblings for the murder of a security guard in Jama’are.
