The Yobe State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old housewife, Hadiza Jamilu, who fled after allegedly mutilating her husband’s genitals with a sharp object during a domestic dispute in Potiskum.
Police spokesperson Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed the arrest on Monday, February 9, 2026. The incident occurred on Friday, February 6, when officers responded to a distress call and found the man lying in a pool of blood in his room.
“We rushed to the house and could not find anybody, so we immediately took him to a clinic for treatment and later referred him to the Azare Medical Centre for further treatment,” Abdulkarim stated.
He explained that the suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack and remained at large until her capture. “At the moment the wife fled, we could not get her until early this morning. She has been arrested, and we are investigating to determine what transpired,” he added.
The police spokesperson noted that the husband identified his wife as the attacker but has been unable to provide a detailed statement due to the severity of his injury and pain.
“We have not been able to get any statement from the husband due to the pain from the injury he sustained,” Abdulkarim said.
The case has been transferred for further investigation as authorities work to uncover the motive behind the extreme act of domestic violence. Updates will be provided as the probe continues.
