The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered new, desperate tactics by drug traffickers attempting to smuggle illicit substances by concealing them inside everyday consumer items like yogurt packs and MP3 players.
The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, highlighting emerging “narco-trends.”
Babafemi revealed that consignments of methamphetamine were discovered hidden inside Hollandia yogurt packs and MP3 players during recent NDLEA operations. He shared videos showcasing the concealment methods as a public warning.
“Narco-trends: When we see how desperate drug traffickers are becoming daily, we’re reminded always to warn law abiding people to avoid collecting any luggage or parcel from anyone on your travels whether local or international,” Babafemi wrote.
He urged citizens to exercise extreme caution: “The videos shared with this post shows how consignments of methamphetamine were concealed in Hollandia Yogurt packs and Mp3 players as uncovered by #ndlea_nigeria officers. Just take a look and be guided at all times.”
This discovery underscores the evolving and brazen methods employed by narcotics traffickers to evade detection, exploiting innocent-looking goods. The NDLEA’s warning is a critical alert to the public, especially travelers, to be vigilant and avoid carrying items given to them by strangers, as they could unknowingly become drug mules.
