Panic gripped residents of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Friday after a four-man armed robbery gang carried out a daylight attack, shooting a motorist and escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The incident occurred around 11:30am along Post Office Road, directly opposite the Kwara State Correspondents’ Chapel office. Eyewitnesses said the masked assailants fired several shots before fleeing the scene in an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla with a faded number plate.
According to witnesses, the robbers appeared to have trailed their victim, who was driving a grey Toyota Sienna with registration number AA 693 GT, before launching the attack.
“They must have followed him. They shot at his vehicle from behind and deflated his two left tyres before taking the money packed in four big cartons,” an eyewitness said.
The victim, who was reportedly transporting cash for an undisclosed assignment, sustained a gunshot injury on his palm during the robbery and was immediately rushed for medical attention.
Confirming the incident, the Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the robbery was reported at about 11:30am on Friday, December 12, 2025.
“An armed robbery incident occurred along Post Office Road, Ilorin, where the driver of a Sienna vehicle was attacked by armed men, leaving him with a gunshot injury on his palm and an undisclosed amount of money carted away,” she stated.
She added that the victim is currently receiving medical treatment, while the **Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi**, has ordered a discreet investigation into the attack.
According to the police, security has been reinforced across the Ilorin metropolis with increased patrols to reassure residents. The Commissioner also advised residents to avoid carrying large sums of cash.
“Use online transactions whenever possible. If physical cash movement is unavoidable, use trusted bank escort services,” the police advised.
Residents were further urged to report suspicious movements, particularly around banks, markets, and busy commercial areas, as investigations continue.
