The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has successfully reunited 11 boys from Jigawa State with their families after rescuing them from suspected human traffickers.
The handover ceremony took place on Sunday in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, where the rescued children were officially transferred to the Ringim Local Government Area for reintegration with their families.
Speaking at the event, the NAPTIP Commander in Jigawa State, Abdulkadir Turajo, disclosed that the victims were rescued by the agency’s operatives in Lokoja, Kogi State, following intelligence-led operations. Turajo was represented at the ceremony by the Head of Operations, Yunusa Mohammed.
According to NAPTIP, the rescued victims are male children aged between seven and 15 years, all originating from Tsaba, Kunkurawa, and Tsabare villages in Ringim Local Government Area.
Turajo explained that the handover process was carried out in collaboration with the Jigawa State Ministry for Local Government and Community Development, which played a key role in facilitating the swift reunification of the children with their families.
He commended the Ringim Local Government Council and the state ministry for their prompt response and cooperation, noting that such synergy is crucial in combating human trafficking and ensuring victims are safely returned to their communities.
The NAPTIP commander reiterated the agency’s unwavering commitment to fighting human trafficking across Nigeria, stressing that its operations focus on victim identification, rescue, rehabilitation, and family reunification.
Receiving the children on behalf of the local government, the Chairman of Ringim Local Government Area, Badamasi Garba, expressed gratitude to NAPTIP for its timely intervention. Garba was represented by the council’s Director of Personnel Management, Idana Isah.
He assured that the local government would take responsibility for the rehabilitation, reintegration, and monitoring of the rescued children, while also strengthening community awareness to prevent future cases of child trafficking.
Human trafficking remains a major concern in Nigeria, particularly involving children, and authorities continue to urge parents and communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies.
