Zamfara Police officers rescue 25 kidnapped victims from bandits



In a daring nighttime operation, the Zamfara State Police Command successfully repelled a bandit attack and rescued all 25 victims who were kidnapped from Kuraje village in the Damba area of Gusau Local Government.


According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesman, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the rescued victims included 10 women and 15 of their children, who were abducted on Friday night.


DSP Abubakar detailed that the police acted immediately upon receiving the distress call. “On 21st November 2025 at about 21:45 hours, a group of armed bandits in large numbers, wielding dangerous weapons and firing sporadically, attacked Kuraje village,” the statement read.

    He explained that a joint team comprising police patrol teams from Damba Division and the Department of Operations, working in collaboration with the State’s Community Protection Guards (CPG), was swiftly mobilized for a rescue mission.


    The security forces pursued the fleeing bandits and engaged them in a intense confrontation. “The team confirmed the incident, pursued the fleeing bandits, and engaged them in a coordinated and strategic operation,” the PPRO stated, describing the encounter as a "fire-for-fire" operation.


    The gallantry of the operatives led to a complete success. “Thanks to the professionalism, gallantry, and swift response of the operatives, all twenty-five (25) abducted victims were successfully rescued unhurt,” Abubakar confirmed.


    The rescued women and children were immediately relocated to Sabongari Damba for safety and proper profiling and have since been reunited with their families.


    The State’s Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, commended the bravery and dedication of the officers involved in the operation. He reassured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Zamfara State.
