A Nigerian federal lawmaker, Honourable Tunji Akinosi, has moved to calm fears following a reported threat by former US President Donald Trump to deploy military forces to Nigeria to stop alleged genocide against Christians.
The House of Representatives member from Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency questioned the timing and motive of the threat, stating that Nigeria is making significant progress in its fight against insurgency. Akinosi stated this during an interview at the sidelines of the 2025 Ayetoro Yewa Day celebration and the launch of a N1 billion Arcade and Civic Centre project.
According to the lawmaker, while insecurity remains a challenge, the administration of President Bola Tinubu is addressing it decisively and achieving steady success. He assured citizens that there was no need for panic, emphasizing that the government is in control of the situation.
“Well, insecurity is everywhere in Nigeria and it did not start with the present administration. This has been going on for about 20 years now,” Akinosi said. “This administration has taken the bull by the horns and is tackling insecurity headlong. We are achieving success all around.”

He characterized Trump's statement as a "political declaration," questioning why it emerged at a time when the country is "winning the war." Akinosi reiterated the government's resolve, stating, “To Nigerians, there is no cause for alarm, no reason for apprehension, we are on top of it and the president is leading us well.”
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, commended the Tinubu administration for its focus on impactful, people-oriented projects. Salako highlighted the Federal Government's massive investment in infrastructure within the Yewa area of Ogun State as a testament to this commitment.
He revealed, “If you look around you will notice that we have never had it this good in Ogun state and particularly in Yewa... We have now awarded 163 kilometers of roads with a value of N550bn.” The project is set to cover four local governments, significantly improving connectivity and economic prospects in the region.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Rep. Gboyega Isiaka and former state House of Assembly Speaker Suraji Ishola, who all commended the Federal Government's developmental efforts.
