Preliminary investigations by law enforcement reveal that the shooting followed a dispute that escalated rapidly. A law enforcement source detailed that “two cars were spotted on a surveillance camera leaving a parking garage near the restaurant.” The vehicles pulled over, their occupants interacted with Boyd and his group, and moments later, the gunman opened fire, striking the NFL player before speeding off in one of the vehicles.
Authorities confirmed that no arrests have been made, and the investigation is actively ongoing. Investigators are working to obtain the parking garage’s surveillance footage and are receiving cooperation from witnesses who were present at the scene. Boyd, a University of Texas alumnus, was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2019 and has also played for the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans before signing with the Jets this past offseason. His current teammates, including Jermaine Johnson and Harrison Phillips, have taken to social media to ask for prayers for his recovery.
