In a dual-pronged approach to quell the persistent violence in Plateau State, President Bola Tinubu has deployed a high-level peace envoy while the Department of State Services (DSS) has announced the arrest of a major arms dealer allegedly supplying weapons to militants in the region.
The presidential peace initiative was led by Dr. Abiodun Essiet, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), who undertook a critical two-day mission to the troubled state. Dr. Essiet engaged in a series of high-stakes meetings, holding separate dialogues with Christian clerics, including Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, and Fulani Miyetti Allah leaders, before convening a large town hall meeting in Jos with delegates from various local government areas, traditional rulers, women, and youth groups.
The mission focused on rebuilding community-based peace structures and promoting coexistence. A significant and immediate achievement from these engagements was the resolution of a long-running farm dispute in Gyel District, where “the Chairman of MACBAN in Bassa LGA, Isah Yau, paid N500,000 compensation on November 15,” leading to the release of seized cows and a signed peace undertaking by all parties.

Concurrently, in a major security breakthrough, the DSS announced the arrest of a suspected arms dealer, Musa Abubakar, on November 12. In an official statement, the service revealed that “the suspect confessed to having manufactured and distributed weapons and ammunition to armed groups involved in violent attacks in Plateau and neighbouring states.”
The arrest followed a raid on an arms-making workshop in the Mista Ali area of Bassa Local Council, where operatives uncovered components of improvised explosive devices, chemicals, and equipment for manufacturing high-calibre weapons. The DSS described this as a "high-target" operation that successfully disrupted a key supply line feeding the armed groups responsible for the recurring violence, marking a significant step in the federal government's intensified crackdown on criminal networks in the North.
