Prince Harry Cleared of Bullying by UK Charity Commission in Explosive Sentebale Scandal

Prince Harry cleared of Sentebale charity bullying scandal 2025

The UK Charity Commission has officially cleared Prince Harry of bullying allegations tied to a dramatic internal dispute at Sentebale, the HIV/AIDS charity he co-founded in 2006.

According to AFP, the commission launched an investigation after Sophie Chandauka, chairperson of Sentebale, publicly accused the Duke of Sussex of “bullying” and “harassment” earlier this year. The conflict erupted in March and April 2025 after Harry and co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho resigned from the charity, following boardroom turmoil and trustee resignations.

In its final report released Wednesday, the commission found “no evidence of widespread or systemic bullying or harassment, including misogyny or misogynoir”. However, it criticized both Harry and other charity stakeholders for allowing the dispute to unfold so publicly, damaging the charity’s reputation.

The charity watchdog also highlighted governance issues, citing poor clarity in delegation of authority, which it said led to “mismanagement” in administration. A corrective governance plan has now been issued to help restore Sentebale’s credibility.

In an earlier statement, Harry said, “These events have been heartbreaking to witness, especially when such blatant lies hurt those who have invested decades in this shared goal.”

Chandauka, appointed in 2023, had previously cited Harry’s Netflix documentary filming during a Sentebale fundraiser and Meghan Markle’s unannounced appearance at the event as key grievances.

The report’s findings come as a relief to Prince Harry, who has faced public scrutiny since stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and relocating to North America. Sentebale, meaning “forget me not” in Sesotho, was founded by Harry in honour of his mother, Princess Diana, and continues to serve children living with HIV/AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana.

The Charity Commission has urged all parties to refocus on the mission and improve governance for the benefit of the children and communities who rely on Sentebale’s services.
