Popular Nigerian music star, Davido, has once again stirred political waters, this time with a cryptic song that appears to confirm rumors of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a surprise move, Davido released a new single titled “From Umbrella to Broom”, symbolizing a shift from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
Rumors of Governor Adeleke’s planned party switch intensified last month after he and Davido paid a visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his Lagos residence. While no official statements were released, political analysts speculated that the move was more than a courtesy visit.
According to Daily Post, Davido’s lyrics in the new single have further fueled speculation. In the song, Davido sings:
“New broom go sweep better. Ẹtan abẹla si ìjọba wa. From umbrella to the broom. Adegbe adafa, alagbada alefa…”
The lyrics suggest that a new political era is coming, and he claims the switch will “move the state forward.” The song continues with commentary on poor infrastructure and alleged propaganda, adding that the youth are frustrated and seeking change.
While neither Davido nor Governor Adeleke has issued a formal statement confirming the defection, political observers believe the song is a soft launch to prepare the public for the governor’s move.
The 2026 election in Osun State promises to be one of the most hotly contested in the state’s history, and Davido’s latest release could mark the beginning of a new political narrative.
