The distraught vendor shared the incident in a tearful video, explaining how her newly hired sales rep unknowingly handed over the expensive wig to the fraudster.
According to her, the theft occurred shortly after the staff was employed. The customer reportedly dropped false contact details and convinced the new employee to rent out two wigs. The most valuable wig alone was worth ₦2 million.
“Everything was fine until I hired a new girl,” the vendor recounted. “My phone was off when the customer came, so she couldn’t reach me to confirm anything. Now the wigs are gone.”

She added that one of the wigs had not been returned even after the agreed rental period, prompting her to share the story online in a bid to recover it. In the video caption, she pleaded: “Please, if you’re the one, return it.”
The video has since gone viral, sparking emotional reactions on social media. Many users sympathized with the vendor, while others criticized the customer’s dishonesty and called for improved verification processes in Nigeria’s booming wig rental industry.
This incident has fueled a conversation around security and due diligence in the beauty business, especially as wig rentals gain popularity among women looking to wear high-end hair for events without purchasing outright.
